Love Your Home: Add Green
I want you take note of how you feel the next time you step outside, take in a beautiful green field or enjoy a lush backyard. Color theory studies say that green can be an instant mood-booster and stress reliever. Our bodies tend to relax in nature, but it can also feel motivating (money) and optimistic (new growth).
The easiest way to create a home you love, is to apply your life to it. This can feel overwhelming at first or like it needs to be a huge investment - it doesn’t! I believe everyone should love their current home, no matter your circumstance. This new series will breakdown attainable and simple ways to embrace your space fully, creating a home you love.
1. add plants
This is my favorite way to add a boost of green all around my home. Not only are you giving the space for the eye to “rest”, you are also adding life! There’s a reason we feel more relaxed sitting outside, looking up at the canopy, in a forest or a beautiful garden. With a variety of leaf structures, shapes and sizes, you have so many options.
And listen - it works better if you name the plant and say nice things to them. I don’t make the rules.
2. paint
Paint the whole room or a piece of furniture. There are SO MANY choices available to you and the best news: you can always change it if you need to. My three current favorites are Sherwin William’s Everfog, Choice 2 and Choice 3.
3. accents & textiles
Pack a punch with an emerald tile or add warmth with linen curtains. If you enjoy a more minimalist style, this is a great way to dip your toe in the water. We all agree green in a neutral now, right?
4. landscaping
Don’t forget about your outdoor space! You can add plants to your patio, or build on the green in your view. If you have the outdoor space to create a garden bed, start with a few perennials that will come back year after year. A good place to start is creating a board on Pinterest to get an idea of the vibe you’re craving. Seriously - you can create any oasis you want!
